|The Local Council of Women|
The Local Council of Women is an umbrella group founded in 1894 with the objective of improving the lives of women and children.
George Wright, a bachelor and well-known public speaker against strong drink, prostitution, and the poverty of widows and children, made his will just before he boarded the Titanic leaving his home to the Local Council of Women. All meetings are held here and it is a key source of income for the good works of the Council, through tenants and one-off rentals. For more information on renting space, please see Space to Let.
